Monitoring, for AES Client: US

Nuclear Regulatory Commission/

RES/ DSARE/RPERWMB

Project supported NRC Integrated

Monitoring Strategy research sup-

port, showing relationships among

various PA indicators & models to

monitoring locations, timing, de-

vices and measurements for radio-

nucleides.

Overview: The objective is to

develop an integrated ground

water monitoring strategy that

supports confirmation of PA

models, and addresses existing

site characterization, compliance

and detection monitoring needs,

identify presence of contaminant

plumes; test alternative conceptual

flow and transport models; aid in

the confirmation of the assumptions

of the PA model, and hence

the performance of the facility

through increased confidence in

the PA, and help identify/quantify

 uncertainties. AES examined

collected data such as ground

water monitoring of radionuclides

to confirm use of PA models, and

presented their research objectives

at a conference on subsurface

monitoring and modeling sponsored

by  the National Ground-Water

Association. The tools and technical

bases developed will emphasize

relevancy to decommissioning &

waste facilities project situations.
